Cold Springs, WY Forest Fire, Aug 1924
FOREST FIRE LOSS REPORTED LARGE
COLD SPRINGS AND NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS IN WYOMING BURN.
Cheyenne, Wyo. -- The settlement of Cold Springs and neighboring buildings have been destroyed by a forest fire which is raging in thick timber in the War Bonnet district, 60 miles southwest of Douglas, Wyo., according to information received at the United States land office here.
Two crews of 60 men, led by Sheriff ALBERT PEYTON, of Converse county, and Special Agent KIMBEL, of the general land office, are fighting the flames, which threaten thousands of acres of government owned timber.
ROBERT DYER, chief of the Wyoming division of the general land office, left by automobile for Esterbrook, Converse county.
Two forest fires in the Elk mountain district, 100 miles west of Cheyenne, were reported by air mail pilots. Both fires are in the down timber and neither is believed serious.
Four fires in the Green mountain district, 60 miles north of Rawlins, which crews of men have been fighting for several days, still were burning.
Due to the extreme dryness of the forests in Wyoming, fire danger has become acute.
