Evanston, WY Private Plane Crash, Sep 1977

PLANE CRASH KILLS ROY MAN, INJURES 4.

Evanston, Wyo. (AP) -- A 39-year-old Roy man was killed and four other persons critically injured when their light plane crashed during an emergency landing near Evanston, Wyo., Thursday.
Killed was OWEN W. TAYLOR, of 2032 W. 5900 S., co-pilot of the plane which was returning to Ogden from Fort Collins, Colo.
The pilot, LEE HOLT, of Ogden, and MRS. LEON SEVERNS of Fort Collins, were reported in "serious" condition at the McKay Hospital.
MRS. STEVENS 3-year-old twin daughters, MITZI and TIFFANY, were reported in "critical" condition at the University Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
Sheriff's deputies said MR. HOLT apparently ran out of gas and was trying to make an emergency landing on old U.S. 30 when the plane crashed.
MR. HOLT had rented the plane from the Key Aviation Corp. in Ogden reportedly to bring MRS. SEVERNS to Ogden to visit relatives.
A spokesman for Key Aviation said it "is still an assumption" that the plane ran out of gas.
Federal Aviation Authority investigators were scheduled to begin probing the crash scene today.
Key Aviation official Gary Fitzgerald said the plane could not carry enough fuel to make the roundtrip and it wasn't known whether the pilot had refueled in Fort Collins.
Mr. Fitzgerald said the plane apparently stalled a short distance short of an abandoned portion of U.S. 30. He said the craft normally stalls at between 75 and 80 miles per hour.
The crash occurred near the Evanston Golf Course about to miles northeast of the city.
The plane had left Ogden early in the morning and crashed about 2:30 p.m.
