Casper, WY (near) Bomber Crashes, Mar 1944


Casper, Wyo., March 3. -- (AP) -- Three officers and five enlisted men are dead as the result of a crash of a heavy bomber from the army airfield at Caper, which occurred late Thursday afternoon 25 miles northeast of the field.
The bomber was on a combat training flight.
Lieutenant Colonel Marcus A. Mullen, station commandant, said that the cause of the crash was not yet determined but that a board of officers had been named to investigate.
There were no survivors.
The names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.

Casper, Wyo., Mar. 4. -- The names of the three officers and five enlisted men killed in the crash of a heavy bomber from the army air field, Casper, Thursday afternoon, was announced here today by the public relations office at the base.
The next of kin have been notified.
The men are:
Capt. CHARLES W. BLEY, Berkeley, Calif.
Second Lt. EUGENE E. RAVERA, Newton, N.J.
Second Lt. JOHN A. WILLIAMS, Morristown, Tenn.
S/Sgt. CARL E. CLEVELAND, Sunbury, Ohio.
Sgt. GEORGE P. PETERSON, Perry, Ohio.
Sgt. VERNON E. ARNE, Stewart, Ill.
Sgt. DUANE T. ZEFAH, Cushing, Minn.
Cpl. ELMER L. WALTERS, Pawpaw, Ill.
The cause of the crash, which occurred 25 miles northeast of the field, is undetermined, but a board of officers has been named to investigate it.
