Mondovi, WI Bus Crashes, Nov 1950
BUS CRASH INJURES 18.
VEHICLE VEERS OFF WISCONSIN ROAD.
Mondovi, Wis. (AP) -- Eighteen persons were injured early today in a Northland Greyhound bus crash four miles east of here.
Several of the injured were hurt severely. The bus was en route from Chicago to Minneapolis.
Buffalo County Traffic Officer H. A. ZEICHERT, Cochrane, Wis., said that apparently the bus failed to make a curve at 4 a.m. Marks as the scene indicated the bus left Highway 10, traveled 350 feet along a ditch on the left hand side of the road, swerved to avoid a culvert and hit a treet on the opposite side of the road 100 feet further along.
The driver of the bus, ARTHUR SCHULTZ, Minneapolis, was pinned in the wreckage for 2 1/2 hours until the vehicle was pulled away from the tree. An unidentified woman seated behind SCHULTZ also was caught in the wreckage.
SCHULTZ is in the Gillette hospital here suffering from a fractured leg and multiple cuts and bruises. Also taken to Gillette were JANET MORGAN, St. Paul, fractured knee, and MRS. CLARA VENSKE, Evanston, Ill., fractured hip and scalp wounds.
The other 15 injured were taken to Clinic hospital. An unidertified serviceman was treated and released. The bus carried 19 passengers at the time of the mishap, officials stated.
