Oshkosh, WI Feather Bed Fire and Foundry Fire May 1879

Sunday Fires.
There were two fire alarms on Sunday. One in the afternoon was caused by the burning of a bed in the house of a man named MOREY, on 11th street, near Kansas. the bed was a feather bed, and made a great deal of smoke, but little flame. The fire was extinquished with but little damage to the building.
The second alarm was shortly before seven o'clock in the evening. Parties along the river discovered a fire burning in a back shed of MORSE's foundry. The blaze proved to be a pile of shavings inside of the shed. The flames were extinquished with pails of water. Had the fire not been promptly discovered and as quickly put out the chances would have been good for considerable damage. The origin is unkown. but it is supposed by some to have been the work of an incendiary.
