BURLINGTON OFFICIALS PERISH IN COLLISION.

Two Work Trains Come Together With Fatal Results -- List of Dead and Injured.

St. Paul, Minn., May 30 -- A La Crosse, Wis., special to The Dispatch says: Chief Engineer PURDY, who was injured in the Alma wreck yesterday, died at 9 o'clock this morning. Superintendent BESLER, of Chicago, was removed to his home in Chicago today. His injuries are not serious. Engineer BRECKENRIDGE went with him. One of his feet was badly crushed. He will be able to be out in a short time. DR. HOEGH, of Minneapolis, came down late in the night to consult with the other surgeon in regard to Superintendent CUNNINGHAM. It was found necessary to cut off his leg below the knee. His condition is considerably worse this morning. General Manager DELANO came up from Chicago this morning to take back the remains of Consulting Engineer BLAKE.
In a head-end collision Thursday between two work trains on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy road, near Alma, Wis., the consulting engineer of the system was killed and four of the high officials were injured were injured, probably fatally.
The dead:
E. J. BLAKE, consulting engineer, Chicago.
Injured:
D. C. CUNNINGHAM, La Crosse, superintendent northern division, one leg cut off.
S. D. PURDY, chief division engineer northern division, La Crosse, both legs cut off.
W. L. BRECKENRIDGE, Chicago, chief engineer Burlington system, seriously injured.
J. B. BESLER, general superintendent, injured slightly.
The party at the time of the accident was inspecting the workings of the Lidgerwood unloader. The officials were on the front of the car which was next to the engine when the other work work[sic] train coming round a curve, crashed into the officials train.
