New London Man Dies In Auto Crash

E. F. Ramm, 45, New London, manager of the Ramm Motor company of that city, was fatally injured at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when the car he was driving crashed into a truck driven by Clifford Rossey, Oshkosh, on Highway 26, two miles west of Greenville.

Rossey was arrested about an hour later by Sheriff Fred W. Giese and Deputy Sheriff Lothar Kemp, and was held in the county jail until Thursday morning, pending investigation by the district attorney's office. He was released when it was found that he was not to blame for the crash.

Ramm's head was crushed and he also received severe gashes and lacerations of the body. It also is believed he suffered internal injuries, as he was pinned to the steering wheel.

It is believed that Ramm fell asleep at the wheel. Rossey told Oscar J. Schmiege, assistant district attorney, that he saw Ramm approaching about a block away. He said the car appeared to swerve from one side of the road to the other. He also stated that he ran off on the shoulder of the road to avoid the crash.

Ramm was driving east toward Appleton on Highway 26, and Rossey was headed for New London. Ramm's machine was demolished, the top being torn off and the entire front telescoped.

DIED IN FEW MINUTES

Ramm was pinned behind the steering wheel. He died on the way to St. Elizabeth hospital. He was taken to the hospital by Earl Zerrener of New London, a passing motorist.

An investigation conducted Wednesday evening at New London by Mr. Schmiege and Mr. Kemp revealed that the truck, until Wednesday afternoon, was owned by H. W. Walner of New London. Mr. Walner stated that the truck was purchased by one E. Miller of New London, according to Mr. Schmiege. Miller is being sought and his truck is being held at Hortonville.

The front part of the truck was badly damaged, Rossey receiving a severe shaking up.

The body was returned from Appleton late Wednesday evening, accompanied by Dr. D. V. Meiklejohn of Fond du Lac, a brother-in-law, who was summoned immediately after the crash.

Ramm's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Ramm, New London, recently left for Washington, D. C., where they were to be winter guests of Col. and Mrs. W. B. Wallace.

Survivors are the parents; one brother, Donald of Stevens Point; two sisters, Mrs. D. V. Meiklejohn, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. W. B. Wallace of Washington.

Mr. Ramm was a member of the Masonic lodge and was active in civic affairs at New London.
