Roberts, WI Oil Tank On Train Explosion, Sep 1894

A DELUGE OF FIRE.

Hudson, Wis., Sept. 15. -- An oil tank on a west-bound freight exploded near Roberts this morning, burning up two freight cars and a caboose. While passengers were being transferred across the wreck just before dinner an oil tank exploded, scattering the burning oil broadcast over the passengers near by. All escaped but seven, who are as follows:
Conductor TOM FREDERICKS, hands and head burned.
WILLIAM CONWAY, Ellsworth, Wis., hands and face.
MR. DICKEY, Cleveland, O., hands and head.
L. R. HUDEGER, Menomonie, Wis., hands and face; badly.
JOHN BELWICK, Minneapolis, back, hand and face; bad condition.
LEVI W. MYERS, consul to Victoria, who was returning to his home at Wapelo, Ia., hands, face; clothing all burned.
OLAF OAKWALL, Hudson, section man, hands, face and body; all clothing burned off.
JOHN HOGLAND, Hudson, hands.
The injured passengers were brought to this city, given medical care and taken to St. Paul on a special train.
