Hambleton, WV Tannery Fire, Mar 1910
Unable to Check Blaze
Hambleton, W. Va., Mar. 24 - Fire originating in the rawroom of the tannery here this afternoon destroyed the plant, entailing a loss estimated at $1,000,000. An effort was made to control the flames with the apparatus of the plant, but so rapidly did the fire spread that the attention of the volunteer firemen had to be given to saving nearby buildings. The plant is one of the largest in the State. The loss is partially covered by insurance. Only last Sunday a new engine was installed, at a cost of $15,000.
The Washington Post, Washington, D.C., 25 Mar 1910
