PILOT PERISHES IN WRECK OF NAVY JET.
Belington, W. Va., July 13 (AP) -- A Navy Fury, a jet fighter plane, crashed with a resounding explosion just north of this central West Virginia commuinity today, killing the pilot.
He was identified by officers at the Patuxent, Md., Naval Air Test Center as Lt. Cmdr. HORATIO GATES STICKEL, JR.
The 34-year-old officer, a 1944 graduate of the Naval Academy, lived at the test center with his family. His home address was listed as Philadelphia.
STICKEL, assistant director of test pilot training at the center, was flying to Columbus, Ohio, to deliver the FJ3 Fury to the manufacturer for modification, officials said.
