Hawks Nest, WV Train Derailment, June 1930

ENGINEER KILLED AS TRAIN DERAILS.
Charleston, W. Va., June 21 -- (AP) -- The engineer was killed and four other persons were injured, two of them seriously, in the derailment tonight of the Sportsman, westbound passenger train of the Chesapeake and Ohio railway, at Hawks Nest, 60 miles from here.
HOMER E. HASKELL, Huntington, W. Va., engineer of the train met death in his engine as it plunged from the rails. The fireman, HEC ANDERSON, also of Huntington, was badly burned. The others injured were W. CLEMENTS, Richmond, Va., express messenger, badly burned; SHERMAN BOSTIC, Hinton, W. Va., baggage man, and MARY BURKE, Negress, Clinton Forge, Va., minor injuries.
The cause of the derailment was undetermined.
