Pitzer's Mill, WV Passenger Train Wreck, Nov 1928
TRAFFIC IS RESUMED AFTER TRAIN WRECK.
ENGINEER AND FIREMAN WERE KILLED IN WEST VIRGINIA CRASH -- MANY WERE INJURED.
Martinsburg, W. Va., Nov. 26. -- (AP) -- Traffic on the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, blocked last night by the wreck of the National Limited, in which the engineer and fireman were killed and a score of passengers and others injured, was resumed tonight. The wreck occurred at Pitzer's Mill, 15 miles east of here.
The wreckage, including the locomotive and the club car, in which many of the passengers were injured, will be removed from the field into which it was tossed by the crash, and will be taken to Baltimore and Philadelphia shops.
The remains of WALTER FRALEY, the engineman, have been sent to his home in Baltimore and the body of OTIS EVERETIS, fireman, has been sent to his hime in Cumberland.
The negro cooks on the train, who were seriously injured, were reported recovering in the Hagerstown Hospital.
The limited was wrecked, according to reports to officials of the railroad company, when it was hurled from the track by derailment of 16 cars of a passing freight train, eastbound. A wheel on one of the freight cars broke just as the limited passed, it was said.
