Swandale, WV Man Crushed By Logs, Mar 1954

CLAY FATHER OF SIX CRUSHED UNDER LOGS.
Clay, W. Va., March 30 (AP) -- A Clay County father of six was crushed to death at nearby Swandale today when logs rolled on him while he was loading a log car.
Mortuary attendants identified the victim as 49 year old JOE ELLIS KEY of Swandale, an employe of the Elk River Coal and Lumber Co. A company official said it was the firm's first fatality at the camp in 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, MRS. PEARL KEY; five sons, CLELL of Cowan, WALTER of Morris, GEORGE of Swandale, and WILLIAM and HARLAN, both at home; and a daughter, DONNA JEAN, also at home.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Church in Swandale, conducted by Rev. Howard Paxton. The body will be removed from the Clay mortuary in Clay to the residence Wednesday evening.
