A VICTIM OF WESTERN EXPLOSION.

Among the passengers who lost their lives by the boiler explosion on the steamer JOSEPHINE, in Port Susan Bay, 50 miles north of Seattle, Wyoming Territory, was S. E. CANNON, a commercial traveler for the firm of BATES, REED & COOLEY, of this city. In answer to inquiries at the office of the firm in the City, MR. COOLEY said that private dispatches fully corroborated the report of the death of their traveler. MR. CANNON had been with them for a number of years, coming to them from the employ of E. S. JAFFRAY & Co. In the section of the country in which he lost his life he was well and favorably known, and the accident occurred just as he was starting upon his Spring tour. "We have received dispatches," continued MR. COOLEY, "corroborating the accounts published. MR. CANNON was seated at the dinner table when the explosion occurred. The little river on which it occurred has a very swift current, and we cannot look for the recovery of his body for some time, although directions have been given for strict watch at all points. MR. CANNON was about 48 years old, and was well known throughout the United States as a traveling man. He was a married man, residing with his wife and children upon a valuable farm near Scranton, Penn. His family is well provided for. The day previous to the fatal accident the premium upon the accidental insurance policy of MR. CANNON expired and was renewed by us, and a receipt received prior to the accident."
