Youth Killed When Thrown From Auto

A 19 year old Carnation youth was injured fatally when he was thrown from an automobile against a concrete guard rail near Falls City at 10:30 o’clock last night, the State Patrol reported.

The youth, Archie Lee Pugh, was dead upon arrival at Nelems Memorial Hospital, North Bend, Coroner John P. Brill, Jr., said. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Othie Pugh, Carnation.

State Patrolman Dan Weston said Pugh was riding in the back seat of an automobile driven by Thomas Pierce, 19, Carnation, when the car went out of control on a curve about a quarter of a mile south of Fall City.

Pugh, who apparently was lying on the back seat of the automobile, was thrown out when a door flew open. He suffered a skull fracture. Pierce was not injured.

It was the 13th traffic fatality in King County in August and raised this year’s total to 68. Twenty-five of the deaths have occurred in Seattle and 43 outside. Last year at this time, there had been 49 deaths, 22 in the city and 27 outside.

Gerald J. Casey, 29, of 11406 Crestwood Drive, was injured gravely at 10:45 o’clock last night when an automobile he was driving struck two parked automobiles in Renton Avenue, just north of Renton, State Patrolman Doug Moore reported. Casey was in critical condition in Renton Hospital today with a fractured skull.

Casey was driving alone in Renton Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, Moore said. The automobile left the road and sidewiped{sic} automobiles parked near 12030 Renton Av.
