Danville, VA Tobacco Factory Fire, Jan 1897


Danville, Va., Jan. 11. -- Fire broke out Saturday in the big leaf tobacco factory of the American Tobacco company, and the building with all its contents was entirely consumed. The walls fell in and the building, valuable machinery and 1,000,000
or more pounds of leaf tobacco will be a total loss, estimated at $150,000; insurance, $125,000.
The company will rebuild at once.
