NAVY FLIER'S BODY LOCATED BY DIVERS.
FORMER GRAND FORKS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE VICTIM OF CRASH OFF VIRGINIA COAST.
Norfolk, Va., Jan. 31. -- (AP) -- Navy divers Thursday found the body of Lieutenant ROBERT C. HAVEN, 28, in the navy plane in which he plunged to his death in Linkhorn Bay during a training flight Tuesday night.
The most intensive search ever staged in eastern Virginia, with more than 800 servicemen and civilians participating, ended when a navy flier spotted, in Linkhorn Bay about two miles west of Virginia Beach, the plane in which Lieut. HAVEN crashed to his death during a practice flight. The plane, a single seated fighting bomber, was totally submerged.
Navy parties, CCC workers, coast guardsmen and civilians pushed through to an isolated point of land nearest the spot where the plane went down in 20 feet of water, and succeeded using grappling hooks, in bringing a wing and a wheel ashore.
