Rutland, VT Wagon Accident, Oct 1825

Fatal Accident. On the 19th ult. as a Mrs. May, of Fitzwilliam, N. H. with another woman and a child, were riding through Rutland in a chaise, they were met by a loaded waggon[sic], with which they came in contact so as to upset the chaise, from which they were thrown, and the child was instantly killed. We understand that, on examining, it was found there was not sufficient room given for the chaise to pass. It is hoped that the serious consequence of the culpable neglect of the teamster, in this instance, may operate as a warning to others how they trifle with the provisions of the law of the road, more especially in meeting females and children. ---Worcester Spy.
