Middlesex, VT Train Wreck, Dec 1875

RAILROAD ACCIDENT.

SERIOUS WRECK OF A TRAIN ON THE VERMONT CENTRAL ROAD----LIST OF THE INJURED PASSENGERS.

MONTPELIER, Dec. 28.----The night express train on the Vermont Central Railroad, going north, ran off the track at 4:30 o'clock this morning, at Middlesex. The train was running thirty miles an hour, and was thrown from the track by a broken rail. Two Pullman cars and another passenger car went over an embankment fifteen or twenty feet. The wreck was very general and serious. The following wounded passengers have just arrived from the scene of the accident; C. Dion, of Holyoke, Mass., injured slightly in the head; N. Laffler, of Holyoke, severe cut in the head and across the forehead; Mrs. Bowdoin, of West Brookfield, Mass., was hurt internally, but not seriously; this lady is about eighty years of age; John Allen, of Three Rivers, injured in the head and system shocked; Mrs. Hickey, of Springfield, wounded in the head and face, and internally; her injuries are very serious; Miss Mary Hickey, her daughter, has a cut across her face, but is not seriously hurt; John Hickey, of Springfield, the father, is slightly bruised; R. B. Kenaison, of Boston, injured slightly in the leg; F. H. Marshall, of Boston, slightly hurt in the leg.
