Brattleboro, VT Vermont House Fire, Feb 1852

Large Fire at Brattleboro.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt., Thursday, Feb. 19. The Vermont House, a new and handsomely finished hotel, Colonel Townsley's store, one dwelling house, together with some barns and a large hail, were all burned this afternoon. The property was partially insured. Loss not yet ascertained.

The Brattleboro Fire.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt., Saturday, Feb. 21. The fire at the Vermont House could not be stopped for the want of water. That building, together with the dwelling house of Asa Hall Clapp and the store of Townsley & Son was destroyed. The Congregational Church was badly scorched. The Brattleboro Bank was saved by covering it with carpets. The Vermont House and outbuildings cost $25,000. The store of Townsley & Son was worth $5,000, and the dwelling-house $2,000. The Vermont House and the store were insured.
