Little Cottonwood, UT Snow Avalanche, Apr 1872
A TERRIBLE SNOW AVALANCHE -- A RHODE ISLAND MAN KILLED.
Salt Lake, April 13.
The snow avalanche Thursday and yesterday at Little Cottonwood was the most fearful ever known in this region. The slide at the Wellington mine came from a height of 2000 feet, carrying away everything in its course and burying the entire day force of workmen. The men were dug out alive with the exception of the foreman, H. H. MURRAY, whose body was brought here today. Seven men were caught in another slide, but were rescued. Two men at the Davenport mine were buried in a cabin, but escaped. Other slides are anticipated. In the storm of the last few days snow fell six feet on a level. MR. MURRAY, who was killed at the Wellington mine, was from Rhode Island. He was agent of a party of seven, and was highly esteemed.
