Magna, UT Copper Corporation Explosion, Jan 1960

FIVE WORKERS INJURED IN MAGNA BLAST.
Magna (UPI) -- Five maintenance workers were injured today when an explosion blew out the windows and one wall of a storage room at the Arthur Mill of Kennecott Copper Corp.
Company officials first said the explosion was believed to have been caused by a leak in a gas heater but later said the cause of the blast had not yet been determined.
The men were gathered around a "salamander", a small self-contained heater, in an area adjacent to the storage room where the blast occurred. The storage room is located under the mill's flotation section.
Three of the men were able to walk away after the blast. The five men were taken to St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment.
Injured were:
A. L. KIRK, 59, Magna.
W. V. BROWN, 61, Salt Lake City.
GLEN ROBINSON, 59, Salt Lake City.
B. K. SIMMONS, 36, Magna.
EARL F. NEWBOLD, Magna.
The hospital said KIRK and BROWN appeared to be the mostly seriously injured.
