NINE IDENTIFIED IN STATE'S WORST CRASH.

Midvale, Utah (AP) -- Four adults and five children were killed yesterday in the worst traffic accident in Utah's history.
It happened when a truck loaded with 12 tons of wet sand collided broadside with the sedan in which the victims were riding.
The dead were members of three families. They were identified as:
BEN S. WATANABE, 67.
SUE WATANABE, 57, his wife.
MRS. MASAKO YANO IMADA.
RONNIE IMADA, 12, her son.
ALLEN IMADA, 6, her son.
ARTHUR IMADA, 69.
DAVID IKOMA, 6, all from West Jordan, Utah.
Only injured at first was GENE IMADA, 8, the third son of MRS. MASAKO YAMO IMADA. He died later in a Salt Lake hospital.
The gravel truck was driven by 36-year-old CHARLES E. BRIGGS, of Salt Lake City, who said he failed to see the other vehicle in time to slow down, let alone avoid the impact.
Bodies of the dead were found in the wreckage and close by.
Officers said all nine Nisei were in a new Pontiac, driven by MRS. IMODA, that failed to stop for a boulevard sign in southeastern Salt Lake county.
The greatest toll taken previously in the state by a highway accident involving an automobile was seven persons. That accident, too, was a car-truck collision, in Kaysville last Feb. 17. The seven victims were in a wedding party.
Yesterday's shattering collision occurred at the intersection of 7150 South and 9th East. The intersection has a blinker light with stop signs for east and west traffic.
Police said the heavily loaded auto was traveling east on 7150 South and the truck was northbound.
The impact demolished the family's late model sedan. The car was struck broadside.
