Cleburne, TX heavy equipment convoy wreck, May 1953
Two AF Members Die In Mishap On Way To Aid In Waco Disaster
CLEBURNE (AP) - Two members of an Air Force heavy equipment convoy enroute to Waco to help clean up tornado debris were killed last night in the collision of their vehicle and a civilian car.
The men, from Wolters Air Force Base at Mineral Wells, were Odell Francis, 37, of Alexandria, Va., and Sgt. McCoy Slaughter of Pittsburgh.
Patrolmen escorting the convoy said the two were killed and two other airmen were hurt wen a car plowed into one of the vehicles five miles northwest of Cleburne. The convoy, from the 332nd Engineers Aviation Battalion, consisted of bull dozers, cranes and other heavy equipment.
