Benjamin, TX Oil Rig Fire, May 1927

BEAVER RIG NO. 1 DESTROYED BY FIRE LAST WEDNESDAY.

The Beavers No. 1, located 2½ miles north of town, drilling at 2,650 feet, caught fire from the forge, about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. The rig, engine house and tool house were a complete loss. The damage was estimated to be about $20,000 with insurance of $12,000.

Mr. J. A. Moore was the driller when the rig caught fire. Mr. Seibert of the Proper Drilling Company, informs us they have sent to Vernon for a rig and derrick and will be drilling again in less than thirty days.

The Pete Jones No. 1, located east of town is drilling at 2,762 feet, but due to a cave in they are closed down waiting for 6 inch pipe.---Benjamin Post.
