DISASTROUS FIRE AT JEFFERSON, TEX.

FORT WORTH, Tex., Dec. 31.---At midnight tonight fire destroyed several stores in Jefferson, Tex., entailing a loss of $75,000. The burned firms are: J. P. Pensemer, dry goods; Sam Marroom, dry goods; two restaurants and the Sunset saloon. Losses total. Insurance cannot be learned tonight, as the telephone exchanged burned out and the news was sent by an operator perched on top of a telephone pole.
