HEREFORD FIRE LOSS $25,000

SEVERAL BUSINESS BUILDINGS IN HEART OF TOWN DESTROYED.

PARTIALLY INSURED.

Amarillo, Tex., Dec. 30. - Fire this afternoon destroyed a number of buildings in Hereford and a call was made to the Amarillo fre department, but the fire was reported under control before the apapratus [sic] was loaded on the cars. The loss is estimated at about $25,000, according to reports received here. Hereford Hardware Company, Mrs. S. C. Worley, Baker's restaurant, Dale's barber shop, Wilson's meat market, Powell & Son, saddle and harness, and F. B. Brittain are among the total losses. Insurance, so far as can be ascertained here, is about one-third of loss. A large number of other buildings were damaged and stocks damaged in removal and the entire town was threatened at one time.

Hereford is without waterworks, and but for the fact that there was no wind the fire would have been a very serious one.
