16 BUILDINGS IN FLOYDADA BURNED; DAMAGE IS $85,000

PLAINVIEW, Texas, July 4. - For seven hours fire raged in the business section of Floydada, nrear here, this morning. Long lines of bucketment fought the flames. Hardly a breeze stireed to hamper the fire fighters, and at 9 o'clock they had the fire under control. The damage amounted to $87,000, the flames having wiped out sixteen business houses, gutting the entire west side of the square.
The fire started in a pressing and cleaning establishment, where it is believed a gasoline stove was left in such condition that it set fire to the building. The flames were discovered at 2 o'clock this morning.
The fire destroyed the First National Bank building, but it is believed the safe was not harmed. Other losers are: The C. Suringer & Sons' hardware and furniture store; J. W. Blair, furniture and general store; E. E. Brown, hardware and furniture; Biles Brothers, jewelry; Floyd Mercantile Company and three drug stores.

ENTIRE BLOCK OF BUSINESS BUILDINGS DESTROYED.
Bucket Brigade Fights Flames for Several Hours Before Getting Control - $25,000 Insurance.
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS.
Floydada, Tex., July 4. - Fire which raged from 2 to 9 o'clock this morning destroyed an entire block of buildings on the west side of the square. The loss is estimated at $50,000, partially covered by insurance.
Sixteen buildings were destroyed, and it was only by hard work on the part of volunteer firemen that further damage was prevented. A bucket brigade was hastily organized when the fire was discovered and combated the flames for seven hours, until they were safely under control. The fire is said to have started in a tailoring establishment and spread to the First National Bank, which was destroyed, though it is believed the safe and its contents are uninjured.
Other losers are: Floyd Mercantile Co., C. Suringer & Sons, hardware and furniture store; E. E. Brown, hardware and furniture store; J. W. Blair, general store; Biles Bros. jewelry store, and three drug stores. The insurance is about $20,000.

Floydada, Tex., July 7. - The following is an estimate of individual losses in the fire of the morning of July 4, as near as could be presented by the parties at this time:
Boener & Nelson, grocery, $2,000; covered by insurance.
First National Bank, two store buildings, $2,500; insurance $700.
E. E. Brown & Co., hardware, $5,375, with $3,000 insurance.
Biles Bros., confectionery and jewelers, $6,200.
Massie Bros., realty, loss on fixtures, $500.
Liston Racket Store, $300, with $300 insurance.
Floyd Mercantile Company, dry goods, $7,500; insurance $1,000.
T. A. Goins, drugs, $7,000, with insurance of $4,000.
A. D. White, drugs, $4,000, with $500 insurance on building.
J. S. Pool, store building, $700, no insurance.
J. N. Faris, store building, $1,000, no insurance.
A. C. Bowers, building, $700, no insurance.
Cox Barber Shop, loss estimated $1,200.
King store house, $1,000, no insurance.
Masonic Building, loss, $3,000, with $2,300 insurance.
J. D. Starks, house, $1,000, no insurance
Other and minor losses will bring the total up to $50,000.
