Cleburne, TX, Storms Hit Cleburne, Apr 1908
THE WORST STORM IN MANY YEARS IN NORTH TEXAS.
CITY OF CLEBURNE SUFFERS CLOUDBURST AND HOUSES ARE FLOODED.
Fort Worth, Tex., April 18. -- With telephone, telegraph and railroad service almost completely suspended, Fort Worth last night was the center of the worst storm of wind and rain that has raged over north Texas in many years.
With two exceptions every railroad out of the city was forced to annul some trains, owing to washout of tracks and loss of bridges.
Cleburne, twenty miles south, was struck by a wind storm of tornado proportions, followed by a torrential downpour of rains that literally flooded the city. Within twenty minutes after the storm broke two bayous that run through Cleburne had left their banks, flooding five to six hundred houses.
A circus, whose tents were pitched in the western portion of the city, was completely wrecked. Two lions escaped and prowled about town for an hour, throwing people into a panic.
