DESTRUCTION BY FLAMES.

NEW COURTHOUSE AND RECORDS OF CHILDRESS BURNED.

CHILDRESS, Tex., Oct. 21.---The new courthouse burned at 4 o'clock this morning. The records are all lost. Loss on house $45,000; on records and furniture $25,000. It was the work of an incendiary. No clew.

COTTLE COUNTY TO ORGANIZE.

To Rebuild the Courthouse---A Growing Town.

At a called meeting of the commissioners court it was decided to duplicate the courthouse recently burned, making some slight changes to make the building more safe from fire.

Childress had five dry goods stores, seven grocery stores, three hardware stores, two drug stores, two furniture stores, six hotels, two banks, one music store, two livery stables, two tin shops, one saddle and harness shop, three saloons, two restaurants, three lumber yards, three wagon yards, one barber shop, one boot and shoe shop, two feed stores, one ice and coal company, two butcher shops, five lawyers, three doctors and a population of 1200 people.

The first national bank building is receiving the finishing touches. It is an elegant structure. Two other brick buildings are being completed, new residences are continually going up, there is a great demand at present for residences for rent. There woolen business houses are being erected.
