Fireman killed in train wreck

Mexia, Tex., Oct. 3. --- {By The Associated Press}--- WALTER McELHANEY of Ennis, Tex., fireman, was killed and JACK CARTER, engineer, also of Ennis, narrowly escaped death when the Southern Pacific night passenger train, Owl No. 18, ran into a washout, six miles south of Mexia early Sunday morning.

All passenger coaches remained on the rails and no passengers were reported injured, but the engine turned over. The body of McELHANEY was recovered from under the engine this afternoon and sent to his home in Ennis.
