Shoals, TX House Fire, Oct 1891
TO SAVE HIS WIFE.
An Old Man's Heroic Effort of No Avail.
SHOALS, Tex., Oct. 18.---A farm house two miles east of this city belonging to William Elliot was burned last evening with all its contents. Elliot and his wife, both about 80 years old, were doing some work on the farm when the house was discovered to be on fire. Elliott being an invalid was scarcely able to get to the house. His wife ran into the burning building to save one bed and clothing, but as she started out the roof fell in and crushed her to death.
Elliot attempted to rescue his wife, but was too feeble and was also burned so badly that he is not expected to live. Neighbors arrived on the scene too late to be of any aid.
