TWO KILLED IN CHOPPER CRASH.
El Paso (AP) -- A flying lesson ended in death south of El Paso when a helicopter crashed into a pecan orchard, killing the two men aboard.
HAL JONES, 50, of Clint and PAUL GEORGE WILLIAMS, 27, of Los Angeles died when a two-seat helicopter used for crop dusting crashed about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told El Paso County sheriff's deputies the helicopter was heading east across a field bordering North Loop Road when it suddenly dropped.
The two men had taken off in the helicopter about a half mile west of the crash site, Sgt. Ernesto Fabela of the El Paso County sheriff's department said.
JONES, a crop-dusting pilot, was teaching WILLIAMS how to fly, but it is not known who was piloting the helicopter when it crashed, Fabela said.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration in Albuquerque will visit the scene Wednesday night to determine why the helicopter crashed and who was piloting it, Fabela said.
The bodies were taken to Thomason General Hospital in El Paso for autopsies.
