Lampasas, TX Lampasas County Courthouse Fire, Dec 1871

SERIOUS FIRE IN LAMPASAS. Loss $10,000. --- From an extra Dispatch of the 27th ult., we learn that a serious fire occurred in Lampasas on that day. A new two story frame house, belonging to Mr. Sparks, District Clerk, and an adjoining building, occupied by a Mr. Weaver were totally destroyed, with their contents; loss estimated at $10,000. The county records, in care of Mr. Sparks, were also destroyed. The efforts of the citizens saved a more extended conflagration. Fire attributed to incendiarism. --Waco Advance.

Lampasas Courthouse

Because the young county had no resources to build a courthouse, county records were kept in a small frame building for a number of years....On December 24, 1871, the frame courthouse burned, and with it many of the county records.
