Hillsboro, TX Hill County Courthouse Fire, Sept 1872

The Waco Register, 21st inst., learns the courthouse at Hillsboro and nearly all the records were consumed by fire on the night of the 18th inst. It is thought to have been the work of an incendiary.

Around 1870 a more substantial two story brick courthouse was built; when it burned in September 1872, many of the county records were lost in the fire. Arson was suspected.
