Llano, TX Courthouse Fire, Oct 1880

Llano County Court-House and Records Burned.

FREDERICKSBURG, October 19. -- Sheriff Buzarth and the county clerk of Llano county arrived here last night from Llanotown. They bring the startling intelligence to District Attorney Askor and Judge Blackburn that upon last Sunday night the office of the district and county clerk of Llano county, containing all the county records, etc., was entirely consumed by fire. The fire was, without doubt, of incendiary origin, and was conceived with the idea of destroying all papers implicating parties in that county with cases which are to be tried there before the District Court next week. The perpetrators of this dark crime have so far been able to elude detection. Every effort will be made to catch them and bring them to speedy justice. District Attorney Asker will proceed to Llano as soon as possible with the view of substituting the lost papers and records.
