Dallas Student Pilot Killed Near Sherman

Sherman, May 21. – Mortimer RILEY, 21, of Hewlett, Long Island, died here today three hours after the plane in which he started a cross-country flight with W. M. CURRY, 22, of Wichita, Kans., crashed in a field near the Sherman airport.

RILEY’S head was crushed and both legs were broken. CURRY, who suffered a broken back, a crushed skull and a leg fracture, was not expected to recover.

The youths were students at the Dallas school of aviation. CURRY, at the controls, would have received his transport license from the school tomorrow. RILEY had 120 hours of flying to his credit.

They took off from Love field at Dallas just before 6 a. m., on the flight.

Second Death In Sherman Crash

Sherman, May 23. – William CURRY, 21, Wichita, Kan., died here today from injuries suffered in a plane crash Monday at the local airport.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles CURRY, of Coraopolis, Pa., near Pittsburg, will accompany the body back to their home for burial.

CURRY suffered a broken leg, and back when the plane in which he was flying with Mortimer RILEY, 21, another student flyer, struck a “soft” spot in the air at an altitude of about 200 feet and crashed.

RILEY died three hours later. His body was sent to Stamford, Conn., at the instructions of his mother, Mrs. E. W. NEAL, Long Island, N. Y.
