PORT ARTHUR FIRE.

IT IS STILL BURNING ABOARD THE CITY OF EVERETT -- THE WHARF TOTALLY DESTROYED.

Port Arthur, Tex., Sept. 8. -- At 11:30 p.m., Sept. 7, the whaleback steamship City of Everett, then lying at the Texas Oil wharf taking on a cargo of crude petroleum, took fire from some defect in an electric light in use by the second mate, MR. STAUFFER. MR. STAUFFER was painfully burned, but is now resting quietly. Two explosions really occurred and the vessel was quickly covered with flames.
Most of the crew escaped by running aft and going overboard, as the fire was then well forward on the ship's quarters. The vessel was well moored to the wharf, which was totally consumed.
All day fire has raged in the foreholds and is yet burning furiously, despite all efforts to quench it.
All papers and apparatus or attachments are destroyed, but the crew is now refitted with clothes and is comfortable.

EVERETT A TOTAL LOSS.

Beaumont, Tex., Sept. 8. -- The steamship City of Everett was a total loss, valued at $280,000. The explosion was due to defective electric light wires.
Second Mate STAUFFER, who was severely burned, is doing as well as could be expected.
