Kernes, TX Storm and Fire, May 1909

Kernes, Tex., May 21. – A very heavy rain fell in Kernes and vicinity last night, which began about 1 o’clock. The rain was accompanied by a severe wind and electrical storm. No material damage was done, but several small houses and sheds were blown from their blocks and a number of fruit and shade trees were blown down. During the storm last night a small cottage occupied by Walter MCKINNEY, a negro, was destroyed by fire, together with all its contents. The fire was caused by a burning lamp being overturned. No insurance. The Bazette community, five miles south of here, sustained considerable damage, but nothing serious.
