Farmersville, TX fires, Feb 1909
Two Fires at Farmersville.
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS.
Farmersville, Tex., Feb. 22. - The residence of Lowery Whisenant was destroyed by fire, supposed to have caught from a defective flue. Loss of house and furniture about $950. Insurance on house $500 and on furniture $200.
The two-story brick and stone building of J. M. Honaker on the south side of the square, occupied by a meat market on lower floor and by the Justice of the Peace and Modern Woodmen on upper floor, burned. The loses and insurance, so far as can be ascertained, are as follows: John M. Honaker Building, loss, $2,500, insurance $2,000; Bumpass & Dickenson, meat market, fixtures and stock on hand $2,200, insurance $1,600; E. C. Morton, ice box and fixtures $50, no insurance; Modern Woodmen, regalia, etc., $50, no insurance; W. R. Bickley, Justice of the Peace, loss on books, etc., $50, no insurance. In appreciation of the service rendered by the volunteer fire company, of which John R. Rike is chief, the citizens made up a purse of $75 to be presented to them.
