Salt Flat, TX Bomber Crashes, July 1945

DAVIS-MOUNTAIN B-29 CRASHES, 12 ARE KILLED.
ANOTHER SUPERFORTRESS ALSO WAS LOST OVER WEEK END BY NEW MEXICO FIELD.
Carlsbad, N.M., July 2. (AP) -- Col. W. H. Reid, commanding officer of Carlsbad airfield, reported today that 12 bodies had been recovered from wreckage of a four engine bomber from Davis-Monthan field at Tucson, Ariz., which crashed Saturday night.
Reid said the crash in rugged country about 20 miles east of Salt Flat, Tex., southwest of Carlsbad, was reported by the pilot of a westbound American Airlines plane who saw the crackup and resultant fire.
All aboard the plane were killed, Reid reported. Names of the dead were not announced.
