NORTH TEXAS TORNADO.

TOWN OF GLENROSE STRUCK, A NUMBER OF PEOPLE KILLED AND MANY OTHERS WERE INJURED.

Glenrose, Texas, via Granbury, Texas, April 28. -- A cyclone swept the town away at 5:30. Rain, accompanied by heavy hail, followed the wind. Estimate of loss will reach into thousands.
The dead are:

REV. JAMES FORD, pastor of the Methodist Church.
Young daughter of Judge J. R. Milam.

MRS. JIM MUSGROVE.
Child of Mrs. Jim Musgrove.

The wounded have been cared for. Aid has reached here from Granbury, Walnut Springs and neihboring towns in the way of surgeons and nurses.

Fort Worth, Texas, April 28. -- A tornado struck the small town of Glenrose, Somervelt County, this afternoon and left death and destruction in its wake. No intelligence can be secured regarding the storm after it left Glenrose in a southeasterly direction, but it is feared that heartrending accountsof disaster will come in as soon as the wires are again to working order.
Glenrose is located on the Palusy River n a valley. The tornado came down the valley, sweeping everything before it. It struck the town between 5 and 6 o'clock in the business district and about one-third of the stores were wrecked. A hard rain succeeded the wind and the stocks were drenched, ruining what had not been destroyed by the wind.
The western portion of the residence section of the town was struck. Here was located most of the fine residences, the town being a small one but a noted health resort, some of these houses were commodations and well furnished.
The frame houses were simply torn asunder and shattered. Their inmates were without warning of the impending calamity and it was here that all the fatalities occurred. There were many miraculous escapes and many failed to escape. How many can not be told until tomorrow at the earliest.
The residence of MRS. CONNELL, one f those wrecked, caught fire and with two others was burned. It is feared that some of the inmates were cremated but this can not be confirmed tonight.
The property loss is roughly estimated at a quarter of a million dollars. It may prove to be much grater when all the facts are known, for there are undoubtedly other sections which have been devastated up and down the river. It may be several days before the entire story of the disaster is known.
The town is cut off from wire communication tonight and all the facts have come from neighboring towns which have been reached by refugees who can not tell all of the facts, as they are in quest of assistance for their stricken people.
Glenrose is the county seat of Roosevelt County and has a population of about 800 people. It is noted as a health resort, there beig many springs and wells with medicinal qualities. It is this which has caused a number of fine residences to be built by people of means, who have taken up their abode there, an this fact adds to the property loss very materially.
The Fort Worth and Rio Grande will run a special train to the stricken town in the morning. Aboard will be suppies for the sufferers, physicians and surgeons. This train will also pick up other supplies and relief parties a places along the line. Those whose homes have been spared are doing all in their power for the homeless but, according to reports here, there are many of the latter.
