Glen Mary, TN Trains Collide, May 1889

THE OPERATOR ERRED.

Chattanooga, Tenn., May 9. -- Information of a collision on the Cincinnati Southern Railroad, near Glen Mary, has reached here. Through a mistake of orders by the train dispatcher at Somerset, passenter train No. 21, from this city to Cincinnati, collided with a freight. The engines of both trains were totally demolished and a number of cars derailed. None of the passengers were hurt, but the baggage master, postal clerk, fireman and negro porter on the passenger train were badly injured. The accident delayed all trains. Fireman BURCHETT, of the freight train, died of his injuries.
