4 KILLED IN TRAIN WRECK.

PONCE DE LEON DERAILED NEAR OAKDALE, TENN.

NINE CARS OF CRACK SOUTHERN FLORIDA - CINCINNATI TRAIN PLUNGED INTO DITCH 25 MILES NORTH OAKDALE.

CAUSE OF WRECK NOT ASCERTAINED.

FIREMAN, ENGINEER, MAIL CLERK, ONE UNIDENTIFIED PASSENGER MEET DEATH IN EARLY MORNING CRASH.

Oakdale, Tenn., Nov. 11 (AP) -- Four persons were known to have been killed and more than fifty passengers injured in the wreck near here early today of the Ponce de Leon, fast northbound passenger train of the Southern Railway.
Three of the dead were trainmen. The other, a man, was unidentified.
The majority of the injured passenger were from Ohio and Michigan. They had been on a week end excursion to Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain. The three coaches which were carrying them home were among the four day coaches which left the tracks. Three Pullman cars were derailed also.
Thirty-five of the injured were taken by special train to the hospitals in Chattanooga. Every ambulance in the city was pressed into service. Others among the injured were taken to Somerset, Ky.
Relief trains with doctors and nurses were operated from Chattanooga and Somerset.
The trainmen killed were W. A. EISMAN, of Chattanooga, engineer; ED GRANT, of Rising Fawn, Ga., fireman; and Z. WINSTEAD, mail clerk, of Nebo, Ky.
The derailment occurred on a sharp curve at 1:20 o'clock this morning 28 miles north of Oakdale and about 25 miiles south of the Kentucky line.
The unidentified dead was that of a youth in overalls. His head was cut off and his body badly mangled.
Among the passengers severely injured was JOHN RUSSELL, 17, of Mills Springs, N.C. He was believed dying in a Rockwood, Tenn., hospital, where he was removed from the wreck.
The derailment took place opposite the 262 mile post near a little place called Glenmary, Tenn.
The Southern is double tracked at this point and traffic kept moving over the one track which was not affected.
The list of injured passengers sent to Chattanooga hospitals was supplied by the Southern Railway. The extent of the injuries were not determined, but none of the passengers was believed to be seriously hurt.

The body of the man who was killed in the wreck was later identified as that of MARION BRADSHAW, St. Augustine, Fla. The identification was made from papers found on his person.
