Tazewell, TN Bus And Truck Collision, Sep 1966

JOB CORPS BUS HIT, FOUR DIE.

Tazewell, Tenn. (UPI) -- A bus, returning young Job Corpsmen to Kentucky after a night at the fair, was on the final leg of its journey shortly after midnight Saturday when it was struck by a truck and overturned north of here.
Four young men died. Fifteen others were hurt, at least one of them critically.
Highway patrol Sgt. GEORGE MALONE said the victims were:
CURTIS JORDAN, 17.
RANDOLPH SCARBROUGH, 19.
FRED BINYARD, 17, all dead at the scene.
JIMMY RAY NOLAN, 17, died several hours later at a hospital here.
A spokesman for the Claiborne County Hospital said LEO MOFFETT was listed in poor condition.
MALONE said the tractor-trailer driven by BILLY RAY BURGE, Trinity, N.C., apparently crossed the highway center line and crashed into the side of the bus, flipping it over, after bus driver ROBERT WAKEFIELD, 48, swerved to avoid the collision.
JOSEPH KULESZA, superintendent of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park where the center is located, said the Job Corps members were returning from a "recreation trip" to the Tennessee Valley Agricultural and Industrial Fair in Knoxville.
