B-17F CRASHES ATTEMPTING EMERGENCY LANDING.

Martin, S.D. Jan. 17 -- A B-17F bomber and crew attached to the Second Air Force Command, 398th Bombardment Group, Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, South Dakota, crashed and burned while attempting an emergency landing, 4 miles outside of Martin.
On the night time bombing training mission, the attempted landing, on a predesignated grassy area, was missed and the strip overshot. The bomber crashed into a wheat field, burned and exploded, killing all 7 crew members.
