Kingstree SC, House Fire Oct. 1916
Fire At Kingstree
Handsome Home Considerably Damaged by Flames
Special to The State
Kingstree, Oct. 27--On Sunday morning at 10 o'clock fire was discovered between the inner and outer roofs of the handsome residence of P. Thorn. Most of the family were out, and the smoke was seen by neighbors before anyone in the house was aware of the fire. The house is a large three-story building, and therefore the fire had gained considerable headway before it was discovered. The fire department was soon on the scene besides crowds of friendly helpers. The flames were put out in a short time and more damage was done to the house itself by water than by fire, though a hole was burnt in the roof. The damages, which were estimated at $1,500, were covered by insurance.
