McBee, SC Military Plane Crash Kills Flyer, May 1943
Dallas Flier Perishes in Plane Crash
First Lieut. John M. Martin, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Martin, 6123 Velasco, was killed in a plane crash Sunday near McBee, S. C., his parents were notified by the War Department Monday.
Lieutenant Martin was stationed at Tampa, Fla., and was on a tactical mission in South Carolina when the crash occurred, his family was told, but they had not learned full details of the accident.
A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Leutenant[sic] Martin University before entering the Air Forces in January, 1942. He was commissioned last October at Brooks Field, San Antonia.
He is survived by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Ann Martin, student at the University of Texas, and a brother Harold Martin.
