Charleston, SC Fire, Apr 1852
Destructive Fire at Charleston.
CHARLESTON, Tuesday, April 13. A fire broke out at midnight in the wooden building in the southeast corner of King-street and Burn's Lane, occupied by Mrs. Recke, as a grocery, which was entirely consumed; the flames then crossed to the west side of King-street and destroyed the houses owned by Charles Dunn, D. McGuire, M. D. Hyams & Son, and the store of G. P. Williams---the loss is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000. Mr. Habersham, who occupied the northeast corner of King-street and Burn's Lane, also sustains serious loss, his goods having been much damaged by water and removal. The insurance was partial.
