Charleston, SC Hayne & Market Streets Fire, May 1850

FIRE AT CHARLESTON.---A very destructive fire occurred at Charleston, S. C. on Wednesday last. The whole loss is estimated at $250,000. Which is mostly covered by insurance. The Hartford offices lost heavily by this fire. Eight or ten stores were burnt on Hayne st, and seven buildings on Market st. The Charleston Hotel was also much damaged.

DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT CHARLESTON---During the might of the 29th ult. a fire broke out in the City of Charleston, which destroyed 10 large four-story brick stores on Hayne Street, 7 three-story brick dwellings on Market Street, and damaged the Charleston Hotel. The total value of the buildings and stock destroyed was about $350,000, and nearly all of it was covered by insurance.
